Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is the use of talk therapy to help people with a broad variety of behavioral and emotional difficulties.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy focuses on challenging the negative thoughts that create negative behavior and negative feelings. We all have self-defeating thoughts at times. ANTs or automatic negative thoughts race through your mind so quickly you don’t even realize they were there. All of a sudden you feel anxious, sad or irritable and have no idea why. CBT will help you identify where the negative thoughts come from and replace the negativity with positive coping skills. CBT can reduce the overall stress in your life, improve relationships and enable you to face common life challenges.

We use Performance Coaching as a targeted approach to improve performance and address different issues. This gives you a way to get back on track. It is focused on your goals to help you be clear on your desired outcome, build skills and push your goals forward. Some people want to go from good to great. Others may want help in a time of crisis or a new complex situation. There are those who may want a coach to help them identify their key strengths, skills to be developed and strategies for improvement. Coaching can be tailored to meet your individual needs.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a type of talking therapy that is based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that is specially adapted for people who feel emotions very intensely. The aim of DBT is to help you understand and accept your difficult feelings and learn skills to manage them.

Neurotherapy

Neurotherapy is an approach to therapy by using different forms of treatments like neurofeedback to measure and train the electrical signals generated by the neurons of the brain.

Neurofeedback is a form of biofeedback used to change the electrical activity in the brain. In 2000, we did surface EEG with 2 sensors. Now science has evolved and we are able to do whole-brain training. The brain is like a computer, it is all connected through networks and hubs. Our brain gets into a dysregulated state as we go through life. Genetics are a factor, and physical head injury, emotional trauma, and stress can change the way the brain is wiring and firing. This can impact you emotionally and cognitively. If you are making bad decisions or having trouble processing information, or are anxious or depressed, you are showing symptoms of a dysregulated brain. Neurofeedback will create change in the brain and change in your life.

Low Energy Neurofeedback System (LENS) was developed in the early 90’s as an alternative to medication for brain-based problems. LENS directly stimulates biochemical changes that help the brain to self-regulate. A tiny electrode is applied to the scalp to measure the brainwave activity and to deliver treatment. LENS is effective for anxiety, depression and difficulties with mood, energy, focus and mental clarity.

There are different techniques like pEMF, tDCS, tACS and Random Noise that we thoughtfully apply to increase the connectivity in the brain and change the brain dynamics. Using any or all methods increase the brain’s ability to change. We apply these methods effectively for many conditions, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and brain injury. When you boost neural activity, you are opening neural pathways that have closed and strengthening those that are open. The brain has a philosophy of “use it or lose it.” As we age, pathways naturally shut down. The good news is you can reopen those pathways and strengthen your brainpower.

Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to change. There are 100 billion neurons and the same number of support cells connecting all the time. The brain is not static and has the ability to change but sometimes the brain can get stuck. Things going on around us influence our brain, as well as genetics, head trauma, emotional trauma, and stress. We use LENS to create neuroplasticity and give the brain the ability to change. Creating neuroplasticity can take a disorganized brain into a whole different state.

Bioregulation Therapy Biofeedback

Bioregulation Therapy Biofeedback (BRT) is a next-generation therapy technology for the whole body that was developed in Europe. It works on the cellular level and uses specific magnetic fields to connect and energize cells. It is registered with the FDA as a Class 11 Biofeedback Device with research going back to 2013 from Tufts University on cell-to-cell communication.

Neurofeedback helps the brain, BRT helps tune the body and the combination is very powerful. Often times there are somatic symptoms that live on even when the brain has been calmed down. People with anxiety may continue to feel tightness in the chest/heart area or knots in the stomach. People with chronic pain may have inflammation in the body. When there are imbalances in our digestion or immune support, we may see that in our sleep or digestion.  When there are hypersensitivities in the body, this can cause cognitive issues, depression, anxiety and pain. BRT helps to balance the autonomic nervous system and helps with physical and emotional issues of addiction, trauma, stress, and chronic pain.

Online Brain Training

The Online Brain Training program’s goals are to strengthen cognitive function and optimize brain function by gaining control over emotions that can impact daily interactions with friends and family. Both will improve quality of life through enhanced brain performance.

Experts designed the online Total Brain training which starts with an assessment that measures four brain functioning areas: emotion, feeling, self-control and cognition. Emotion looks at flexibility, awareness, and negativity bias. Feeling looks at stress control, anxiety control, and depressive mood control. Self-control includes conscious bias, resilience, and social connectivity. Cognition has memory, focus, planning, processing speed, flexibility, and recall memory. The assessment will provide objective data on how your brain performs, including your strengths and where opportunities for improvement exist.

You can select improvement areas and spend 10-15 minutes of brain training daily. The online dashboard will save your results and measure your progress. There are weekly phone calls to make recommendations for you to apply in your daily life. The assessment can be repeated at the end of each month to provide feedback on the change in brain performance.

Photomodulation is well-known in the sports world. It is the use of LED or low-level light treatment to bring your skin and body to health, clarity and vitality. Research as far back to 2004 has shown that photomodulation can also be used for brain disorders. Shining red or near-infrared light on the head can stimulate, regenerate and protect tissue that has been injured, is degenerating, or is dysregulated from a psychiatric disease such as depression, anxiety or PTSD. The light is used to energize the mitochondria in the neurons and this gives energy to the cell.

The Advanced Listening Program is a neuroscience-based music listening therapy for achieving optimal brain health and functioning. The neuro-acoustically modified music is a fusion of art and science and can target specific areas of brain performance such as executive function, communication, and auditory processing which are key to achieving academic success. It can be done anytime and anywhere. It is amazing what taking 15 minutes to dance with your brain can do to improve overall brain functioning. The results are so impressive that the clinic has gone through the certification program.

Integrated Approach

Integrated Approach is utilizing different treatments under psychotherapy and neurotherapy to create customized programs suited to individual needs.

Here at BPC, no two treatment plans are the same because no two people are. We do not have a template that we use; each individual circumstance is different. We factor in your environment, the life experiences you have had and your personal goals. We take a brain-based approach both on a neurological and cognitive level that looks at genetics, physical head injury, emotional trauma and stress. We have different approaches, all supported by research that we utilize and our expectation is that around six or seven sessions you will be feeling better and know you are on the right road to wellness. Our goal is to exceed your expectations, not meet them. We have found approaching each client on an individual basis and designing a customized program just for them will ensure this will happen.

Executive function skills help you get things done, make a plan and execute it. Executive Function includes mental flexibility and the ability to quickly switch to the appropriate mindset. You will be able to anticipate and resolve a situation by being able to define the problem the right way, identify solutions and choosing the right one. How you manage your emotions impacts your executive functioning, too. Are you able to break down complex situations into manageable pieces and then prioritize? If you have trouble analyzing, planning, organizing, scheduling and completing tasks then your executive functioning skills may need to be strengthened.
